Laala Kashef Alghata is a seventeen-year-old, twice-published poet and
novelist. Her debut novel made her the first Bahraini to publish a book in
English. The book, "Friendship in Knots" (2003) was a children's novel. Her
latest book, "Behind the Mask: A Folded Heart" (2006) is a poetry and prose
collection, and is currently available on Amazon.uk.com. Her poetry has been
accepted online in All Things Girl, Argotist Online, SubtleTea, Because We
Write and elsewhere. She also writes regularly for both the Bahrain and
Kuwait issues of ‘Clientele’, a lifestyle magazine. She is currently a
student living in Bahrain and the editor of the poetry journal Write Me a
